The Role
We’re looking for a designer with a refined visual sensibility, strong strategic thinking, and the ability to take projects from concept to completion. You’ll lead and contribute to design work across editorial publications, digital experiences, and brand identity systems for local and national clients—primarily in the nonprofit sector. This role suits someone who thrives in both independent and collaborative settings, works seamlessly with designers, developers, writers, and photographers, and is fluent in both leading and doing.
Responsibilities
- Conceive and execute design solutions across print and digital projects
- Present work confidently and thoughtfully
- Communicate clearly with clients, vendors, and collaborators
- Manage projects across multiple assignments, meeting deadlines and budgets
- Absorb constructive feedback and refine work accordingly
- Collaborate with the Creative Director and team members
- Direct freelance partners, including photographers and illustrators
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices
Qualifications (Required)
- 8+ years of professional design experience
- Strengths in editorial, web, and brand design
- A portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and visual excellence across print and digital media
- Excellent layout and typography skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Creative problem-solving and time efficiency
- Experience leading projects from kickoff through launch
- Proven client-facing and presentation experience
- Ability to lead, mentor, and provide constructive feedback
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
- A collaborative spirit and passion for continuous learning
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)
- Illustration and/or photography experience
- Motion design skills (After Effects, Cavalry, Motion, etc.), particularly for brand expression
- Front-end development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

This position requires regular in-person work at our Pittsburgh office. After an introductory period, we offer a flexible hybrid schedule, splitting time between the office and home. Salaries are commensurate with experience and expertise.
